La situación geográfica del puerto de Ceuta lo ha convertido tradicionalmente en un puerto apropiado para el bunkering, un suministrador tradicional de combustible a embarcaciones que, sin embargo, en los últimos tres años ha visto como este tráfico ha despegado más allá de los valores habituales.

El éxito del bunkering en Ceuta se asienta en tres pilares fundamentales: instalaciones, calidad de servicio y experiencia en el tráfico. En cuanto a las instalaciones, dos muelles, Poniente y Levante, permiten atender a los buques de hasta 250 metros de eslora, ofreciendo un servicio "en línea", es decir, con el buque atracado en puerto. A este servicio, habitual en el recinto ceutí, se suma desde hace unos meses una nueva posibilidad que ha abierto, al mismo tiempo, más oportunidades de negocio: el suministro mediante gabarra o "en bahía". Gracias a esta nueva alternativa, Ceuta se libera de las limitaciones que pudieran existir en cuanto al tamaño de los buques que repostan en sus instalaciones, ya que ahora está preparado para atender barcos mayores de los 250 metros de eslora.

Con todo, en 2010 se superarán con creces los resultados de 2009 en este tráfico, cuando se alcanzó la cifra de 1,2 millones de toneladas. De hecho, en lo que va de año el crecimiento en relación al ejercicio anterior ya sobrepasa el 14% en el tráfico de bunkering, de acuerdo a los datos del primer cuatrimestre del año. Crecen por tanto las toneladas y también el número de buques que eligen Ceuta para repostar combustible, con una media diaria de entre 15 y 16 barcos. Y es que en el puerto de Ceuta los buques pueden tomar el combustible en poco tiempo y, como en todo, el tiempo es dinero y, en este caso, un ahorro de costes considerable que hace especialmente atractivo para los armadores el puerto ceutí.

Para seguir avanzando en estos tráficos, ya ha sido adjudicada la nueva planta de biodiésel que se ubicará en la primera fase de la ampliación del puerto de Ceuta. Las quince hectáreas de esta primera fase ya están completadas y pendientes de urbanización, de manera que para 2011 podría iniciarse el montaje de la planta. Además, ya son varias las compañías que han solicitado espacio para el almacenamiento de combustible, lo que garantiza el crecimiento de este puerto en un tráfico que ha despegado en los últimos años.

Facilities, quality and experience, keys of the bunkering success

The geographical situation of the Port of Ceuta has turned it into a suitable port for bunkering, a traditional supplier of fuel for boats, that however, over the late three years has seen to take off this traffic beyond current values.

Regarding facilities, two docks, Poniente and Levante, allow to meet vessels up to 250 metres long , offering an "on-line" service , is to say, with the vessel berthed at port. Thanks to this alternative, Ceuta is released from the existing limitations regarding the size of vessels that refuel in its facilities, since now is prepared to meet larger vessels over 250 metres long.

For all this, in 2010 the results of 2009 in this traffic will be highly exceeded., when they reached 1,2 million tons. In fact, so far this year the growth over the previous exercise already exceeds 14% in the bunkering traffic, according to data of the first semester of the year.

Therefore both tons and number of vessels choosing Ceuta to refuel are increasing with a daily average between 15 and 16 vessels. And is that in the Port of Ceuta vessels can refuel in a short time and, as in all, time is money and , in this case, a considerable cost saving makes the port of Ceuta specially attractive for shipowners.

To continue the progress in this traffic, has been already awarded the new biodiesel plant located in the first phase of the Port of Ceuta expansion. The fifteen hectares of this first phase are already completed and pending to be urbanized, so that in 2011 the assembly of the plant might start. Besides, several companies have already requested space for the fuel storage, which guarantees the growth of this port in a traffic that has taken off over the last years.
