El puerto de Alicante cerró el primer trimestre del año con un movimiento total de 524.756 toneladas, lo que supone un descenso del 16,92% respecto al primer trimestre de 2009, momento cuando la crisis se hizo notar con más fuerza en todo el sistema portuario español.

Hay que recordar que el puerto de Alicante perdía entre enero y febrero de 2010 un total de 124.902 toneladas.

Sin embargo, durante el mes de marzo se movieron 198.396 toneladas, frente a las 179.782 del tercer mes del pasado año. De esta forma, el puerto de Alicante invierte la tendencia a la baja de los dos primeros meses. Esta subida, a pesar de todo, no logra que el acumulado hasta ahora sea positivo.

El panorama es distinto en cuanto al tráfico de contenedores. En lo que llevamos de año, se contabilizaron 35.126 TEUs, un 23,88% más que en el mismo período; sólo en el mes de marzo se movieron 14.004 TEUs. Prácticamente todo el tráfico de contenedores proviene o se queda en el mercado nacional: 31.130 TEUs (un 18,13% más que en 2009). El resto, 3.996 TEUs (un 107,58%), se ha destinado a la import/export.

El movimiento de graneles experimenta un comportamiento desigual, confirmando tendencias de meses anteriores. En el capítulo de los líquidos se contabiliza un descenso del 1,83% en todo el trimestre (28.438 toneladas), siendo muy acusada la bajada del mes de marzo, con 10.865 toneladas -frente a las 13.322 del mismo mes de 2009. En cuanto a los graneles sólidos, la bajada es del 29,32% en el tráfico acumulado (171.427 toneladas); sin embargo, en el mes de marzo se ha constatado una ligera recuperación, al moverse 65.601 toneladas, frente a las 57.776 del mismo mes del pasado año.

El tráfico de mercancía rodada, por contra, se mantienen en verde. Hasta marzo, se movieron 45.517 toneladas, un 5,01% más que en el mismo período de 2009. Sin embargo, en el mes de marzo hubo una ligera bajada, con 15.749 toneladas frente a las 16.280 de marzo del pasado año.

Cruceros
El tráfico de cruceros merece una mención aparte. Tanto el número de escalas como en el de cruceristas se han registrado notables incrementos. Hasta marzo, se contabilizaron cuatro escalas, un 300% más. En cuanto al número de pasajeros, la subida fue del 1.059%, con 7.667 personas, frente a las 661 del mismo período del pasado año.

The port of Alicante closed the first quarter of the year with a total handling of 524,756 tons, meaning a 16.92% drop over the first quarter of 2009 , when the crisis was noticed more strongly in the whole Spanish port system. It must be remembered that the port of Alicante lost between January and February of 2010 a total of 124,902 tons.

However during March were handled 198,396 tons, over 179,782 of the third month of the previous year. Thus, the port of Alicante inverts the downward trend of the two first months of the year. Still, this rise does not achieve that the accumulated so far becomes positive.

The panorama is different in terms of container traffic. So far this year, were accounted 35,126 TEU, a 23.88% increase over the same period in the previous year; only in March were handled 14,004 TEU. Practically the whole container traffic comes from or remains in the national market: 31,130 TEU (18.13% increase over 2009). The rest, 3,996 TEU (107.58%), has been allocated to import/export. The bulk handling experiences an unequal performance, confirming former months trend. Regarding liquid bulks a drop of 1.83% is registered in the whole quarter (28,438 tons), being highly marked the drop in March, with 10,865 tons -opposite to 13,322 over same month in 2009-. Regarding solid bulks, there is a 29.32% drop in the accumulated (171,427 tons); however, in March has been noticed an slight recovery, handling 65,501 tons, opposite to 57,776 tons over same moth of the previous year.

The road cargo, on the contrary, remain in green. Till March were handled 45,517 tons, 5.01% increase over same period in 2009 . However, there was an slight decline in March, with 15,749 tons opposite to 16,280 of March of the previous year.

Cruise traffic deserves a special mention. Both in the number of calls and cruise passengers have been registered outstanding increases. Till March were accounted 4 calls, 300% more.

Regarding the number of passengers, the increase was by 1.059%, with 7,667 people, opposite to 661 over the same period of the previous year.
